Himalayan Crystal Salt history

Life evolved from the sea - a mix of water, salt mineral nutrients and the sun’s energy gave rise to single cells containing life. Around 250 million years ago, a large salt lake at the foothills of the Himalayas evaporated and was protected by geology under the earth’s surface in its pristine, pre-pollution state. With millions of years pressure under the earth, the dried salt formed unique, natural crystal structures that are not found in any other salt.

For centuries, this Himalayan Crystal Salt with its mineral nutrients was used by many cultures. It was taken by ancient royalty and was more valuable than gold. Many enduring old trade routes of the world followed the salt supply. Salt's valuable antibacterial qualities meant fresh food could be preserved for long voyages not previously possible. Later, Roman soldiers were paid in salt (salary). Salt in the body 

If you have ever tasted blood, sweat or tears, the overriding taste of these body fluids is salt. Salt levels are reduced through the day with metabolism and exercise, and require replacement to keep its levels topped up. The body fundamentally needs salt as much as it needs water and daylight.

Quality and quantity are big issues for salt
 
Unlike Himalayan Crystal Salt, today’s refined common salt is an industrial by-product where all minerals except aggressive sodium and chloride are stripped out as contaminants for use in various manufacturing operations. Sodium and chloride in this highly refined form are also put in a packet and called food, with added chemicals for whiteners and to keep it dry for pouring. This unnatural, highly-refined salt is as cumulatively damaging to the body as nicotine.

Salt’s important function is regulating blood pressure, volume and flexibility of blood vessels, and the alkaline-acid balance. Good salt is important to regulate fluid pressure (osmosis) in the body to protect against excessive water and nutrient losses.

Many people on Western diets can over-consume around 12 - 20g of harmful, chemically-treated, sodium chloride common salt in their daily diets. Much of this accumulates from, and is hidden in, nutrient-deficient, manufactured convenience foods, cakes, bread, processed and tinned foods and drinks as a cheap flavour enhancer. The body did not evolve for salt intake levels this high. The kidneys can only process and excrete up to 5 - 7g of salt daily. The excess salt that cannot be excreted is accumulated somewhere. It is deposited as toxic residue which eventually can lead to hardening and thickening of the arteries. This means blood pressure rises from having to be pumped through decreased diameter arteries, and to warnings about salt consumption.

For every gram of sodium chloride (highly refined common salt) it cannot remove, the body uses around 23 times more precious cell water than usual to neutralize this salt, resulting in dehydration and thirst. Afterwards, some cells are left flooded while others become weak, or die.

Suggested use

There is no need to eat more than one gram of BioSalt daily. This amount will fit piled up on a five cent coin. Unlike bulk minerals such as calcium, potassium and iron, some trace minerals are only needed in parts per billion to do their symbiotic job effectively. If they are missing in the diet, some other trace minerals and vitamins may not be fully utilized in the body. The whole symphony orchestra is required for true harmony, not just the string instruments.

Add one teaspoon of this brine daily to a litre of drinking water to make your own perfectly balanced re-mineralized water. Or add brine to food as flavouring.
